2017 KEVIN BROWN BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Welcome to the Kevin Brown Invitational Basketball Tournament, which, for the 34th year, is sponsored by St. Isabella's Parish in San Rafael, CA. This year's tournament, as with previous tournaments will include A and B teams for Boys and Girls 4th through 8th grades. More than
800 young people will participate this year. We strive to improve the quality of this tournament each year and invite your input and participation. We are happy to provide CYO quality practice games in a tournament setting prior to the beginning of the regular basketball season.
The time frame for this year’s tournament is December 26th through December 29th for all grade levels. The gym locations are Hamilton at the old Air Force Base in Novato, Miller Creek Middle School in Marinwood (on Las Gallinas Road), St. Vincent's School for Boys in Marinwood, and Davidson Middle School in San Rafael.
Kevin Brown was a member of our community loved youth basketball and understood the importance of sports in helping young people learn the meaning of fair play, sportsmanship, respect for others, loyalty and honesty. It is with this spirit that we sponsor this tournament and are delighted that you can participate.
Important facts about this year's tournament are as follows:
DATES: December 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th
FORMAT: All teams at all levels will play (at least) in a four team round robin tournament. Each team is guaranteed three games (no more, no less).

right after Bolling Drive.
We are fortunate to have such high quality facilities for this tournament. In order to maintain these facilities, we ask for your continued support in making sure all of your players wear a court shoe, as opposed to a jogging or training shoe that may have a soft dark colored sole.
Anything other than a court shoe can damage the beautifully restored hardwood floors. Other regulations are posted and include no food, drinks, smoking, kicking balls, etc. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in obeying the rules.
For the safety of the students who reside on the St. Vincent's campus and the huge influx of children who will be there for the tournament, please observe the 9 1/2 mph speed limit posted on the grounds.
FEES: $275.00 per Team – The cost of championship t-shirts, gym facilities, and salaries of the
referees and officials increases each year. You may pay via Paypal or check (Paypal is
preferred). Make checks payable to St. Isabella's CYO.
CONFIRMATION: We understand that teams want to play games and are paying to do so. We
will make every effort to ensure that schedules are finalized and communicated to coaches the week of Christmas, so that we don’t have to worry about the tournament on the 25th.
RULES: Marin CYO plays man-to-man defense only – no zones.
• Though there are a large number of games and scheduling is tight for a tournament of this size, we will adhere to the time limits for Marin County CYO. They are:
• 4th, 5th and 6th Grades - 8 minute quarters and 1 minute between quarters. 5 minutes between halves.
• 7th and 8th Grades - 9 minute quarters and 1 minute between quarters. 5 minutes between halves.
• Time will be stopped during free throws, but if our schedule runs late we reserve the right to change this prior to the start of games. Coaches will receive ample notice should we need to do this.
• In the event of a tie score at the conclusion of regulation play, the following rules will be used: A 2-minute break followed by a 3 minute overtime period. As many overtime periods of 3-minute duration will be used until the tie is broken. There will be a 1-minute break between each overtime period.
CYO PARTICIPATION RULE: Please note that the participation rule in Marin CYO Basketball will be in effect during the tournament. All 4 quarters will be broken into half quarters. There will be 4 playing periods of one half of one quarter in each half. Every player in uniform will be required to play 1 playing period in each half. That means when a playing period starts, each player on the court must finish that playing period without being removed to get credit for the playing period. If you take a player out 2 minutes into the 3rd quarter because he or she has picked up their 4th foul they must play another full playing period somewhere in the second half.
BASKETBALLS: In 4th and 5th grade boys and all girls’ grades, the intermediate or woman's official ball will be used. The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys will use a regulation size basketball.
PRESSING RULES: The following rules will be used on pressing:
• 4th and 5th grade “B” leagues - Pressing is NOT permitted at any time during the game.
• 4A and 6B leagues - There will no press until the last two (2) minutes of the game. If a team is leading by more than 10 points the no press rule will be in effect on that team.
• 5A and 6A leagues - Pressing is allowed at any time during the game. The no press rule will be in effect on the defensive team when they are leading by more than 10 points.
• 7th and 8th grades - Pressing is allowed at any time during the game. The no press rule will be in effect on the defensive team when they are leading by more than 15 points.
THREE POINT RULE: The three point shot will be in effect for the 6th (A level only), 7th and 8th grade teams.
There is a clearly marked three-point line at the gymnasium.

Eligibility for participation in CYO is based on your geographical location and tied to the parish within your area.
